The Dresdner Hütte is a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers. There are a variety of routes to choose from, depending on your preferences and fitness level. The most popular hikes are:

Hut crossings

  • Hike up to the beautifully situated Peiljoch viewpoint, then follow the Wilde Wasser Trail to the foot of the Sulzenau Glacier and on to the Sulzenau Hut.

Alternatively, you can also cross via the Trögler and take the very steep descent directly to the Sulzenau Hut.

    Hiking time: 2.5–3 hours
    Difficulty: Mountain trail (black category)

  • For experienced hikers, it is possible to continue on from the Sulzenau Hut to the Nürnberger Hut.

Passing by Grünausee, the trail continues over the Niederl or, alternatively, over the Maierspitze to today’s destination, the Nürnberger Hütte.

    Hiking time: 5–6 hours
    Difficulty: Mountain trail (black category)

  • A scenic and lengthy mountain hike, passing Lake Mutterberg on the way to Grawagrubennieder, the highest point on the Stubai High Trail. On the opposite side, the trail drops steeply down into the Hohe Falbesoner Valley. Just before reaching the Regensburger Hut, you’ll come across one of the most beautiful high moor areas.

    Hiking time: 7 hours
    Difficulty: Mountain trail (black category)

  • A challenging high-alpine hike over the Hinterer Daunkopf into the Ötztal valley.

The route is marked throughout, with no glacier crossings and a few easy climbing sections (difficulty level I), but requires a greater degree of sure-footedness and navigational skills than, for example, a stage on the Stubai High Trail.

    Hiking time: 7 hours
    Difficulty: High-alpine mountain hike

  • From the Dresdner Hut to the Eisgrat mountain station and along the glacier trail to the Jochdohle mountain restaurant. Descend via the Gaiskarferner (signposts) to the moraine and down a steep slope to the Hildesheimer Hut.

Hiking time: 4 hours (1 hour using the glacier cable car).
Difficulty: Mountain trail (black category); the glacier sections are marked with poles and are free of crevasses in this area; crampons may be necessary depending on conditions. Information on conditions is available from the hut owners or at the Alpine Center in Neustift.

  • From the Dresdner Hut to the Eisgrat mountain station and along the glacier trail to the Eisjoch. A short descent across the Windachferner glacier and on to the Warenkar; on the opposite side, a steep ascent to the Hochstubaihütte. The highest hut in the Stubai Valley captivates visitors with its unique location and breathtaking views.

Hiking time: 7 hours (4 hours using the glacier cable car)
Difficulty: Mountain trail (black category); the short glacier section is free of crevasses, but depending on conditions, crampons are recommended. Check with the hut owners or the Alpine Center in Neustift for current conditions.

Alternatively, for experienced glacier hikers, there is the route via the Warenkarscharte
Hiking time: 6 hours(3 hours if using the glacier cable car)
Difficulty: high-alpine hike – mountaineering experience required, no trail markers, full glacier gear (rope, crampons, etc.)

Circular walks and hikes

After climbing the Zuckerhütl and the Wilder Pfaff, hikers spend the night at the Müller Hut or the Becherhaus. On the second day of the tour, following a short ascent to the Wilder Freiger, there is a long descent back down into the Stubai Valley.

    Hiking time: 2-day hike
Difficulty: high-alpine hike, ridge climbing up to grade II, full glacier gear (rope, crampons, etc.), (difficult navigation in poor visibility!)
